CORAL is thrilled to welcome Mexican American Catholic College (MACC) as our newest member! We’re excited to collaborate with them and strengthen our community of library professionals.
Founded in 1972 during a time of significant social change and renewal, MACC began as the Mexican American Cultural Center with a mission rooted in cultural identity, leadership, and service. What started as a response to the needs of Mexican American communities has grown into a leading institution for Hispanic and multicultural ministry formation in the United States.
For more than five decades, MACC has supported students, ministers, and communities through innovative programs, theological education, and strong partnerships. Today, MACC continues to carry that mission forward as a Catholic college, offering biliterate and distance learning opportunities while preparing leaders who serve with impact across the country and beyond.
The Elizondo Library at the Mexican American Catholic College is a unique on-campus library and archive named in honor of Rev. Virgilio Elizondo, MACC’s founding president and a pioneer in Hispanic ministry and theology. Located on the first floor of the Our Lady of Guadalupe Student Center, the library houses a focused collection of over 22,000 books, periodicals, audiovisual resources, and reference materials in both Spanish and English. Its Archives preserve original manuscripts, primary documents, and historical records, with special strengths in the history of South Texas.
Beyond its collections, the library offers a welcoming and dynamic space for learning and collaboration. Students and faculty have access to group study areas, an active learning classroom, desktop computers, laptop kiosks, and a dining area. The library also features multiple exhibit spaces and regularly hosts art shows and programs throughout the year.
Rooted in its mission, the Elizondo Library contributes culturally responsive resources, specialized subject expertise, and a strong commitment to community-centered learning. It serves as both a hub for academic support and a space that celebrates and uplifts the rich histories and voices of the communities it represents.
We’re excited to have MACC and the Elizondo Library as part of CORAL and look forward to working together to advance library services through collaboration and shared expertise.
🎉 Welcome to the CORAL family! 🎉
